A Grand Welcome and Kit

It was a big event for me and my Family. In our close relative group everyone was excited as this was the first of its kind. Gathered guests were enthusiastic to see the bridegroom for the first time. We planned to have a grand entry for the groom’s party and thought that a warm welcome to groom, his family and relatives would set the tone for the engagement function and could make it an unforgettable welcome for them.

When they arrived they were welcomed at the entrance of the venue, mom and aunties did traditional arati, tilak for the groom and a small ritual of breaking coconut to ward off evil spirits from the groom. Interesting thing was, as coconut touched the ground beautiful fresh smelling jasmine flowers magically came out of the coconut shell and spread across the ground, where the groom was standing. People were surprised!!! It was good to hear the people’s reaction surrounding the groom.

How did it happen????? Eager to know about it, early morning of the engagement day, we came up with a novel idea of filling jasmine in coconut and surprise everyone. My aunt made a hole in the coconut (one among the three eyelets of the coconut), drained off the water and put the flowers inside it. Isn’t it a cool idea....!!!!!!

Then the guests walked through the passage which was adorned by flower rangolis- an artistic welcome decorated by my close friend with the help of kiddu’s. The groom and the family were received in a royal splendor with my cousins showering rose petals on them. When they entered the reception main door confetti, made of different colors were showered on guests to make the moment even more special. A long row of pathway was created by my relatives and guests had to pass through a canopy made by joining hands. At the other side of the long row of the joined hands, the bride was all set to handover the welcome kit to the soon-to be life partner.

The groom’s party showed initial surprise which very soon turned to be such an overwhelming appreciation for our warm welcome. They truly felt special that day.

A perfect Welcome kit if we say so to ourselves!!!!

Beautiful boat shaped metal basket consisted of Ganesh idol duly covered in Transparent gift bag , first ever attempted quilled greeting card,  cute teddy bear, handmade red roses, colored golden and pink grain sticks and some nutty chocolates to fill the basket.  It could not get more colorful than this!!!

Greeting card was ready but was wondering what to write on it. I wanted to write something thoughtful with a personal touch.......The act of writing personal notes not only fills our own soul, but also allows us to share ourselves with others-offering hope, affirming life and connecting each other.

It’s the day which will never come back in our life and the only way to cherish all our happiness is to have memories of that day. It’s all about colorful celebrations. Really, little things about an event makes it so special and memorable one.
