Mom had seen them in one
of her friend’s daughter’s engagement; in fact that dabba was kept for a long
time as sample. It was my turn to get engaged and she wanted to distribute the
pedhas in the same sort of dabbas but of different shape. You know, women can
easily take up an idea and give it a different look just to say ‘ours is
different’. Theirs was square box but ours was round!
Dharwad pedha needs no
introduction to the sweet loving Kannadigas but for the outsiders, let me tell
you, this is a special sweet delicacy which has a legacy of 175 years and has
won over the hearts of many. For getting the pedha there was no problem as we
lived in the same city (Dharwad) but we did not get the dabbas in round shape.
Finally bro had to bring them from Bengaluru Raja Market, a paradise for craft
items
My task started; Drafting,
printing, cutting and pasting the stickers. Of course it was a tedious job but
at the end of the day there was a feeling of accomplishment.
Look at those colourful pedha dabbas ready to share my mom’s happiness.
After some days when I
happened to visit some of my mom’s friends’ home they were using the dabbas for
different purposes. Some used as Kumkum dabba, some as milk dabba which is used
for doing gejjevastra and others kept as a sample for their children’s event.
I have one with me also to
cherish the beautiful occasion.
